4 Reasons Townhomes Are Hot Right Now

A recent Forbes article pointed out a real estate growth trend—the townhome market is growing, and expected to keep going that way. You might wonder why, now more than ever, are people interested in townhomes? Our homebuyers are enthusiastic about the townhouse lifestyle, so we’ve got the inside view. (In fact, Forbes interviewed our very own Principal, Jeff Benach, in the article.) Why do they love it? Here are 4 top reasons townhomes are hot right now:

1. Walkability. People love to be a part of the community where they live. And in the name of health and fitness, green living, and full immersion in community, being able to walk to transportation and entertainment is a huge perk. “We only build on home sites that are walkable to the train and often near commuter corridors and expressways,” Benach says. “Our communities also are typically walkable to popular suburban downtowns where residents can walk to restaurants and local events.”

2. Affordability. Townhomes can offer incredible space for a better price than single family homes. Lexington constantly works to improve our floorplans so they are open and expansive, offer storage and large closets, and incredible included-as-standard features. “Bottom line is our townhomes provide a less expensive way for buyers to get a new home in a great location,” said Benach.

3. Low maintenance. The major perk of townhomes has always been their low maintenance. What’s not to like about beautiful, well-kept landscaping—and you don’t have to lift a finger? Not to mention other features like snow removal and shared exterior maintenance.

4. Bridging lifestyles. When you look at age groups and lifestyle of those making townhome purchases, a lot of people are either very young—looking to make their first home purchase, but not quite ready for the cost of a single family home—or nearing retirement age—empty nesters looking to downsize. Townhomes are a perfect step on either side of this spectrum because they offer affordability, low maintenance, and still have plenty of space. They make an amazing bridge leading to or from single family homes.
