Summertime in Chicago!

Summer in Chicago are the few months all the locals wait for every year!  With the warm weather months come all sorts of fantastic things to do and see.  We've compiled a list of our favorite downtown activities to check out this summer season.

Chicago White SoxOne of the cool things about living in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood is the proximity to the White Sox games.  A hop skip and a jump away from Lexington Square is U.S. Cellular Field, where the Sox get their game on all summer long.  With regular season in play, take this opportunity to see the 2005 World Series champs in person with your family or friends this summer.  For more information on schedules and tickets check out the White Sox homepage

The Taste of ChicagoThe Taste of Chicago is one of the city's major summer events.  Running from June 25 through July 4, this enormous downtown festival showcases dozens of local restaurants from all cuisines and has plenty of music and entertainment to boot along with the main event: the food!  Taking place in beautiful Grant Park and its surrounding streets, the Taste is an all around awesome experience.  Prepare for large crowds and definitely bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Lollpalooza 2010Lollapalooza has become the number one music festival to hit Chicago over the past several years.  An amazing three day festival with an enormous array of musical talent, Lollapalooza is another amazing destination to find yourself this summer.  Held across the entire Grant Park area, this year's lineup boasts headliners Green Day, Lady Gaga, Soundgarden, Phoenix and so many more!  For tickets, lineup and all other information scope out the Lolla website

The Chicago Air & Water Show is an amazing urban spectacle combining the best of boats and planes right along downtown Lake Michigan.  The largest ongoing show of its kind in history, the Air and Water Show will take place the weekend of August 14-15, 2010.  North Avenue Beach is the main viewing area, but other great spots can be obtained from right on the lakefront to a friends rooftop.  The event goes from 11am-4pm both days.  Be sure to catch the remarkable Blue Angels Flying Team in action!

These are just some of the major highlights going on in Chicago this summer.  There is an overwhelming amount of stuff one can do in the city over the warm weather months.  For more resources check out our previous blog posts on Things to Do In Bridgeport, Bridgeport's Best Eateries and a very comprehensive list of street festivals from metromix!
